What is the OTAC Massage program? What are the benefits?

The Healing Instincts offers Sports massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Swedish massage, Hydrotherapy and Emotional Wellness.

  • Sports massage focuses on muscles relevant to the event. For athletes who train continuously, the goal is to enhance endurance, decrease the chance of injury and shorten the time needed to recover from an event. Following an athletic event, Sports Massage may be used to relieve pain, prevent stiffness, and return the muscles back to their normal state. Sports Massage may also be used for injury rehabilitation.
  • Neuromuscular therapy is static pressure on specific points to relieve pain. In other words its works with the body’s trigger points (bundle of nerves). This technique manipulates the soft tissue of the body to balance the central nervous system. In a healthy individual, nerves transmit impulses which are responsible for every movement, function and thought to the body. Injury, trauma, postural distortion or even stress causes nerves to speed up their transmission, making the body vulnerable to pain and dysfunction.
  • Swedish massage increases the oxygen flow in the blood and release toxins from the muscles. Other possible benefits include stimulation of circulation, an increase in muscle tone, and a balance of the musculo-skeletal systems.
  • Hydrotherapy, or water therapy, is the use of water (hot, cold, or ice) to relieve discomfort and promote physical well-being.
  • Emotional wellness stems from our muscle memory. Depending on the person, gaining depth in a certain muscle can trigger emotions (meta-expressions). It can bring the person back to a certain time period where injury or trauma occurred. Naturally our bodies try and fight off the pain (numbness, poor posture, mood swings…etc.) Over time if the emotion is not released, our posture has a mirror effect of how we really feel inside. This not only benefits the body, its focal point is emotional through the mind/body connection.

Andrea, Massage TherapistAs a Fort Collins native, Andrea grew up enjoying the bike trails all over the city. Her best memories from her childhood center around any outdoor activities; she always plays hard and it shows even now as a budding entrepreneur. Her athletic career included soccer, volleyball, and even high school varsity football. After graduating high school and coming back from goal keeping for Western Nebraska Community College, Andrea followed a new path and accomplished intense training from the Healing Arts Institute where her desire to help others took flight. As she put her past athletic career together with her interest in body work, she launched a wonderful small business in Old Town.
